A Strange Good Friday

The last three years of our Good Friday morning Photos of the Week are very different from this morning’s pic (? Isai Mendez Yela).

Antigua hosts the largest Semana Santa celebration in the world with 100,000 people visiting our 10 square block town. Because of COVID19, the celebration has been cancelled and the center of Antigua has been closed.

Traditionally, Good Friday is the day to remember the sacrifice of Jesus on our behalf. And we know, come Sunday, the tomb, like the streets of Antigua, will be empty.

The celebration of this victory cannot be stopped or cancelled. Grand church services, Easter Sunday brunches and intricate sawdust carpets in the street may not happen this weekend, but the celebration of our risen Savior will.

He is risen! He is risen, indeed!
