Gracias a Dios

Thanks to some good friends and some good food, what happened in my house yesterday was much like what happened in homes all across North America. Days like this make it easier to live in a new country while simultaneously increasing our feelings of nostalgia.

Our table included turkey (pavo), stuffing (relleno), applesauce (salsa de manzana), broccoli and green beans (brócoll y ejotes), and whole lot of other delicious stuff (las cosas). We needed a seperate table for desserts (postres).

And at the risk of reminding you of your high school English class, read on for some poignant words of Thanksgiving…

For each new morning with its light,
For rest and shelter of the night,
For health and food, for love and friends,
For everything Thy goodness sends.
~Ralph Waldo Emerson
